Arabianranta Library is a branch of Helsinki City Library.

The library operates as a local library for the residents of Toukola, Vanhakaupunki and Kumpula, and for those studying or working locally.

As a member of the network of public libraries in the metropolitan area, Arabianranta Library also serves the residents of Helsinki's neighbours, the cities of Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa.

From Toukola Library to Arabianranta Library

Hämeentie 150 became a familiar address over the decades to many residents of the Helsinki district of Toukola. This is where the Toukola Library was based for nearly fifty years. During its first years of operation the library`s volume of lending was mid-level in comparison with other Helsinki public libraries. When the library was suspended at the turn of the year in 2003, it had shrunk to one of the smallest branches of Helsinki city library. The story of the library reflects the overall development of the district itself. The demise of heavy industry from Helsinki affected districts such Toukola built around the Arabia factory. The neighbourhood started to dwindle, and its residents followed employment to other parts of the city.

The new rise of Toukola began in 1995, when the state, the city of Helsinki, local education establishments and property holders agreed on a development intention plan for the area. A new residential scheme intended for the area would require library services: Toukola library received new, more spacious premises from the Aralis Library and Information Centre which was built inside the old Arabia factory complex. The library centre brought together four different libraries, and its opening was celebrated on 15th January 2004. At the same time
the name was changed from Toukola Library to Arabianranta Library.
