Data security

A customer’s personal details are recorded on the joint register of Helsinki metropolitan area libraries.

The Library has the right to register a customer’s social security number.

All customer details are confidential. The Library will not divulge these details to anyone.

After presenting an ID-card, a customer can check his or her details from the registration files. A guarantor has the right to check all details of an institution or society he or she has guaranteed, or the accumulated fees of a minor he or she has guaranteed.

Without a library card, a customer can ask to be told the expiry dates for the materials they have on loan, the number of items on loan, and any accumulated fees.

A customer can check his or her own registration file through the customer terminal.

Library card cancellation

The loss of a library card must be reported to the library immediately. This can also be done by telephone. The library will then check whether the card has already been misused.

When libraries are closed, can you report the loss of a card on the number 310 85309.

A card which has been reported lost, cannot be used for borrowing. Customers are requested to destroy a lost card should it later be found.

A fee is also collected for the replacement of a stolen library card.

Due to the borrower’s personal responsibility, in cases of misuse of a lost or stolen library card, the library will deal only with the card’s rightful owner. Contact with other possible payers, such as insurance companies, should be made by the customer
