Subclasses
Each main class is divided into subclasses, which contain further subsections when necessary, according to historical period, place, technique, material etc.

Subsections referring to period and place are mainly used in history, for example in the history of art and industrial arts, cultural history etc.

Historical period is indicated after the main class by a number with a preceding point:
.1 Prehistoric Times
.2 Ancient Times
.3 Middle Ages
.4 Early Modern Age to c. 1870
.5 Late Modern Age from c. 1870
